Taylorville coal plant supporters continue despite setback

June 2, 2008 TAYLORVILLE - Supporters of a proposed $2.5 billion coal-gasification plant near Taylorville will continue to seek state funding to help pay for design work on the experimental power plant, despite a last-minute setback in the Illinois General Assembly, a top executive with the development company said today.
It’s estimated design would take a year to 15 months and cost $18 million for the plant, which would become one of the first of its kind in the nation to convert coal to synthetic gas for electricity production.
